The best way to discover Myanmar is probably either by foot or by bike. Myanmar offers multiples opportunities to interact with people and their day to day traditional life style from a short walk or cycle ride to a more intensive trek or off road bike ride.
The Shan Plateau where Inle Lake, Kalaw and Pindaya are located gives unlimited itineraries for walks or bike rides.
A 2 days trek in the Shan State can be easily included in the whole program while visiting Inle Lake.
The itinerary starts by a 45 minutes drive from Kalaw to La Mine Village with a 5 hours trek on first day. You will pass by several villages, mostly Pa-O, Nan Aul and Paw Que villages with a stop at Khone Hla for a lunch in one of the villagers house. You will continue the walk along different plantations of tomatoes, sesame, cauliflower, paddies fields. The countryside is beautiful, hilly and colorful with pine trees. You will observe the farmers in their fields where buffalos are still used rather than motorized machines. You will pass by a school where the teacher is teaching to three different claasses at the same time.
Overnight in Hti Htein Monastery. Mattress and blankets are provided. Accommodation is organized as dormitory set up. You have to expect very simple conditions for this night. Showers, toilets are really basic.
Next day, early start with a walk of 4 hours through the country side and villages. You might reach the famous site of Indeing in the late morning and its thousand of thin stupas. A boat is waiting for you to bring you to your hotel. The boats rides give you the opportunity to enjoy the sceneries on the lake passing by the famous floating gardens and among the beautiful Intha tradition houses.
